Welcome to Texas Rose Cattle. Here at Texas Rose Cattle we pride ourselves on family values and quality cattle. While we may be a first generation cattle ranch we certainly know a lot when it comes to producing and marketing high quality cattle. We have been in operation since 2013 and have resided at our ranch in Rogers, Texas since 2016.
"BREEDING POWER AND QUALITY INTO EVERY CALF."
Welcome to Texas Rose Cattle!
Humble Beginnings
Texas Rose Cattle got it's name in a very unorthodox manner but here at the ranch we like to believe it's the exact way it was meant to be.
It was on the night following our first class win at San Antonio with MISS V8 714/7 "Southern Rose" aka "Rosie" that myself, my dad and my stepmom found ourselves at a little Mexican restaurant on the Riverwalk. The conversation quickly turned to one more of a serious nature when my parents asked me what my plan was for this heifer. I genuinely told them I wanted to have a cattle company and raise Brahman cattle for the rest of my life. Instead of being worrisome parents at the thought of such an outlandish dream, my parents asked me what I would name it because if I wanted to make a successful company it would need a special name. My first thought was to name it after Rosie and call it Southern Rose Cattle Company. For some reason though that just didn't flow off the tongue in a way that made me proud. Then just as how sometimes in life we experience "Godwinks" (moments in time that let us know there is a power at play far beyond what we see) Myself and my step mom in discussing the name I would settle on, looked down at the table we were sitting at. On this very table scratched into the wood maybe long ago by some bored patrons were two things that I will always remember. One was a tiny rose and the other a large deep-cut outline of the State of Texas. At almost the exact time myself and my stepmom blurted out maybe a little too loud as we got looks from other customers the name that would define our ranch...TEXAS ROSE! and with that one word Texas Rose Cattle was born.

Texas Rose Cattle began as many things do simply as an idea. Just in the way that many ideas sometimes evolve into more than just a thought, Texas Rose Cattle became a Dream. This "Dream" seemed all to unrealistic in the modern world as "how could someone not born into a ranching family hope to gain a foothold in a multi-generational industry?"
It's funny how life works sometimes in that the very things we may not see as a possibility happen to be the exact thing we are meant to do in this life. My story is no different in that the initial pursuit of this ambition to start a cattle ranch seemed just out of reach. As many know, the majority of Americans are three-generations removed from direct agriculture. My family history is no different in that the most recent ancestor to raise cattle pushed longhorns up north from south Texas to the Chicago packing plants. To tell the truth the validity of even that family history is questionable at best as there does not appear to be any record of this account anywhere. So where does that put me, First-generation cattle rancher with no guidance of how to even begin to pursue such an ambition?
For many such a thought would either put them lost in the sea of dreams or on the brink of giving up. For me having no legacy to fall back on meant I had the unique opportunity to pave a brand new way to combine Agricultural principles with suburban life.
The story of the beginnings of Texas Rose Cattle is a unique one in that it was the dream of a simple Eighth grader from the Suburban town of Spring, Texas not but a stones' throw away from Houston that kicked it all off. Throughout my grade school years I quickly found a passion for livestock in the form of my involvement with my local FFA chapter. It wasn't long before I found myself in high school with the desire to raise a show heifer. I had my eyes set on raising a Brahman, but it almost seemed impossible because that year in high school my family hit financial hardships and it was apparent I would have to find some way of raising money to purchase this heifer; if it was even possible. I found myself registering for every single calf scramble within the state of Texas that I could throw an application at. Sometimes it is luck, sometimes it is divine intervention; whatever you believe I found myself with the opportunity to participate in calf scrambles at Harris County, Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston. Just like that with just enough luck and just enough timing I somehow managed to catch a calf at all of those calf scrambles and found myself with just enough to make half of a payment on a Brahman heifer.
The calf scrambles while helpful isn't where my luck really played out. I had just enough good fortune my freshman year in high school in that I had an Ag science teacher who happened to purchase cattle from the great V8 ranch back in the day and had done some work for them. It was because of his relationship with Jim Williams that I was given the opportunity to go down to Wharton, TX to look over some of the worlds' finest Brahman cattle. Immediately, I found one with my green cattle judging eyes that I fell in love with. My family and I were told the price of this heifer and just like one would when first looking to buy a car the sticker price on that heifer left us shocked. I found myself in Mr. Jim's old truck with my parents pondering "how on God's green earth can I afford that heifer?" Just like a scene out of a hallmark movie my dad and stepmom asked me the question that would define Texas Rose Cattle for years to come. "Is this what you want? Is that heifer the one you want?" "Of course!!! There never was a second thought, Yes that was the heifer I wanted."
Just like at a car dealership my dad somehow negotiated a payment plan on the balance of my first Brahman heifer from V8. I'm not naive now nor was I then in my belief that the largest portion of my family being able to afford that heifer was thanks to Mr. Williams and his kind hearted nature in allowing us to negotiate a monthly payment plan on rest of the balance on that heifer. It is to this day that I am inspired by that very kindheartedness shown to me and seek to help out the next generation of cattle ranchers whenever and wherever I can.
Following the purchase of our first heifer MISS V8 714/7 who I affectionately named "Rosie", I immediately set to hauling her to just about every cattle show I could find on a map. She never won big, but she did manage a few class wins and for my first cattle purchase I was ecstatic. It was Rosie my first heifer that inspired what would become a passion for agriculture that still drives me to this day.
After my years of showing Rosie in high school I soon decided raising quality cattle was my passion and I needed to get a proper education. I ended up attending Texas A&M and received my bachelors' in Animal Science. While in attendance at A&M I had the opportunity to be involved in the Dairy Consortium, became a member of the Animal Welfare Judging team, and did a study abroad in Brazil. My experience at the Dairy Consortium and my study abroad exposed me to different technologies in the beef and dairy industries. My involvement in the Animal Welfare Judging team exposed me to a different philosophy of thinking when it comes to the proper handling and care of livestock.
Most recently, I have started working on my Masters in Agriculture at Texas A&M Commerce. I have over a years' worth of hands on reproductive experience where I have Artificially inseminated over a thousand cows and I am experienced in pregnancy determination via palpation. Here at Texas Rose Cattle I handle all of the cattle management, sales, and breeding decisions. It is my goal to offer high quality cattle to our customers that exemplify the Texas Rose Cattle motto of "Breeding Power and Quality into every calf." If you are interested in purchasing cattle, learning more about our history or would like to arrange for some of our reproductive services please feel free to contact us at anytime.
